Basic Vertical Skills Course:

Description:Mark_Climbing
This is a 48-hour course that deals with the personal skills of rappelling and rope ascending. In this course, you will become better acquainted with the different types of climbing systems while learning good techniques and style with your personal system of choice. When you successfully finish this course, you will be able to negotiate a 200 foot drop both up and down while overcoming all obstacles you may encounter. This course has very little class time as the focus is on providing numerous hours for each individual to be on rope in order to master the necessary skills. A thick manual with dozens of never-before-seen illustrations of responsible creative rope negotiating skills is provided. There will be a written exam and a full list of skills to master to insure final credit and completion.

Friday: 5:00 pm until approximately 10:00 pm
Saturday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sunday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Gear:
All equipment is provided except
1.   Gloves
2.   Helmets
3.   Class I personal seat harnesses

On Rope 1, Inc. can provide the necessary descending and ascending gear if you do not have your own (please inform us when you register if you will need us to provide your gear).

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1.   Efficiently and safely pass a rope pad.
2.   Properly coil ropes.
3.   Properly don a seat harness.
4.   Fabricate an emergency diaper seat.
5.   Efficiently tie 12 of the most commonly used knots.
6.   Effectively free yourself from a hair or clothes entrapment.
7.   Climb a 50 foot rope using knots.
8.   Ascend a 200 foot rope in under 20 minutes.
9.   Climb a 50 foot rope using a jerry-rigged climbing system.
10. Changeover from prusik to rappel.
11. Changeover from rappel to prusik.
12. Use the proper signals (voice or whistle).
13. Demonstrate edge safety.
14. Bottom belay properly.
15. Demonstrate proficiency using a rack while safely rappelling.
